From Fall Colors to Football: Your Guide to Downtown Boise

Fall in Boise doesn't need much of an introduction. The temperatures cool down, the weekends fill up, and suddenly there's something worth putting on the calendar every few days.


Football Saturdays bring blue and orange to every corner of the city. Hockey season gets underway just as the weather starts to turn. Oktoberfest celebrations pop up around town, downtown restaurants give you an excuse to try something new, and October brings plenty of Halloween happenings with it.


If you're looking for things to do in Boise this fall, consider this your starting point.



Saturdays are for the Broncos

You don't have to get very far into fall in Boise before realizing that Boise State football is kind of a big deal around here. Game days bring plenty of energy to downtown Boise, with fans gathering for food and drinks before making their way to Albertsons Stadium.


Still to come at home this fall:

  • October 3 at 5:30 p.m. vs. Utah State

  • October 31 at 8 p.m. vs. Texas State

  • November 14 at 4 p.m. vs. Oregon State

  • November 21 at 7:30 p.m. vs. San Diego State


The Warehouse Food Hall makes an easy starting point for Boise State game day. Get the group together, let everyone grab whatever they're craving, and settle in for a little pregame before heading toward The Blue. The Warehouse also shows Boise State games on the big screen during business hours, outside of select programming, so you don't need a ticket to get in on the game-day energy.


Heading to Albertsons Stadium? The free Valley Regional Transit Game Day Shuttle connects downtown Boise to the east side of Albertsons Stadium for every home football game. Shuttles run approximately every 10 to 15 minutes beginning two hours before kickoff and continue for an hour after the game.


The Warehouse is a proud Game Day Bus partner, making it easy to start downtown, grab some food and drinks, then catch a ride to the game without worrying about stadium parking.

hockey is back across the street

Football may get plenty of attention around here, but fall also means the return of Idaho Steelheads hockey. With home games at Idaho Central Arena right across the street from The Warehouse, adding a little hockey to your fall plans couldn't be easier.


Opening Weekend vs. Allen Americans

  • October 23 at 7:10 p.m.

  • October 24 at 7:10 p.m.


Back on Home Ice vs. Rapid City Rush

  • November 4 at 7:10 p.m.

  • November 6 at 7:10 p.m.

  • November 7 at 7:10 p.m.


Grab dinner before puck drop, meet up for drinks, then walk across the street when it's game time. No complicated dinner plans required.

Hockey isn't the only reason to keep an eye on Idaho Central Arena this fall. The arena also welcomes Boise State men's basketball games in October and concerts and special events throughout the season.


Take a look at the Idaho Central Arena and Idaho Steelheads calendars before making your downtown plans. If you've already got tickets, you've pretty much got dinner figured out, too.


Raise a Stein to Oktoberfest Season

Fall in Boise comes with plenty of reasons to say prost. From downtown celebrations and brewery parties to German-inspired dinners, Oktoberfest season is in full swing around Boise and the Treasure Valley.

One weekend clearly isn't enough. Find a celebration close to home, make your way downtown for Old Boise Oktoberfest, or turn Oktoberfest season into an excuse to explore a few local breweries along the way.


It's a good reminder that fall plans don't always have to involve a pumpkin patch.

Find your Fall flavor

Oktoberfest isn't the only way to taste the season. Boise's coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, and local food spots roll out plenty of fall flavors of their own, from cozy drinks and fresh-baked treats to seasonal dishes and limited-time specials.



Taste your way through downtown

If you've been meaning to try that downtown restaurant you keep walking past, October gives you a pretty good excuse. Taste of Downtown returns October 16 through 25, bringing special menus and experiences to restaurants, bars, cafés, and other food and beverage businesses throughout downtown Boise.


It's ten days dedicated to eating and drinking local, with everything from approachable bites and social hours to prix fixe menus and special experiences. Keep an eye out for participating vendors right here at The Warehouse Food Hall, too, with select concepts joining in on the Taste of Downtown fun.

try something new

Check the Downtown Boise Association's Taste of Downtown guide as the event gets closer to see participating businesses and 2026 menus. Pick an old favorite, try somewhere new, or turn it into your own downtown food crawl.


Do fall like a local

Not every fall plan needs to be a major event. Some of the best ways to enjoy the season are already part of what makes downtown Boise feel like downtown Boise.


  • Catch First Thursday on October 1 or November 5 and spend the evening exploring local businesses, art, live music, tastings, and pop-ups around downtown.


  • Head over to The Basque Block for paella at The Basque Market, where big pans of it are prepared right on the patio throughout October.



Fall weekends fill up quickly around here. That's part of the fun.

Things get a Little Spooky

By October, Boise starts leaning into Halloween. For families, Boo at the Zoo returns October 24 and 25 with trick-or-treating, costumes, activities, and Halloween fun throughout Zoo Boise. The Old Idaho Penitentiary also brings back its Fright Nights at the end of the month, which feels appropriately spooky given the setting.


Closer to downtown, Halloween events, themed performances, costume parties, and other celebrations start filling the calendar as the month goes on.

One of the best parts about fall in downtown Boise is that you don't necessarily need a detailed itinerary. There might be a Steelheads game across the street. A concert could be happening a few blocks away. First Thursday might take over downtown. The Basque Block could be serving paella. Bodo Cinema, attached to The Warehouse, might have the movie you've been waiting to see.


Then there are the things you don't plan for: popping into a local shop, grabbing another round, hearing live music from down the block, or deciding dinner isn't actually the end of the night.

The Warehouse Food Hall puts you right in the middle of it, with local food and drinks, events throughout the season, Bodo Cinema attached, Idaho Central Arena across the street, and plenty happening within a few walkable blocks.


Come downtown for football. Come for hockey. Come for Oktoberfest, Halloween, live music, dinner, a movie, or whatever happened to make it into the group chat that weekend.
